Evan at 18 on the high school senior float trip down the Meramec River. This is one of the few paintings I’ve done where I didn’t take the reference photo. Evan had begun working out and developing his physique. On this float trip—he was mugging for the camera and showing off his biceps as part of the camaraderie of the boat (they were pirates). I would have never gotten this exact pose/expression from him. I asked the young man who took the photo if I could use it to paint. He agreed. This is a perfect example of young Evan at 18.
