Three Days

I began painting the portraits of Evan when he was 3 days old. I was unfamiliar with how to care for a newborn as I had little experience. Newborns are very long and narrow. Their shoulders and hips are slim. The top of their heads are soft. Their eyes are puffy. Their hair is fuzzy.

Although I was thrilled to have a baby I did not know how to care for him. There was a learning curve. Evan helped me learn how to make him warm and comfortable. Within a few days of caring for him, I realized that I would go to great lengths to protect and keep him safe. The instinct of “mother bear protecting her cubs” instinct had kicked in. I was overwhelmed in feeling this distinct maternal protective love. What a joy it was to become a mother!
